Diabetes: The Three Headed Monster

We refer to diabetes as a “three headed monster” because proper diabetic control is more than just controlling blood sugars. In some cases, controlling blood pressure and cholesterol may be even more important than blood sugar levels. There are certain medications that have been shown to decrease your risk for heart attack and stroke and are sometimes started even with normal blood pressures. Your average blood pressure should be 115-120/75-80. In addition, your “bad cholesterol” should be less than 70. By controlling all of these risk factors aggressively, we hope to dramatically impact your wellness and increase your lifespan.

Pediatric Care

We offer the full spectrum of pediatric care starting as early as the newborn period. As a matter of fact, we use to attend deliveries and take care of newborns in the hospital until a neonatology program was established at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. Now a specialized hospital based physician takes care of our newborns while in the hospital. We typically see the newborns 2-7 days after discharge, depending on the gestational age of the infant and if there are any complications. We follow the well established national guidelines for well child examinations and all immunizations. We also offer same day sick appointments. We will follow your child during his/her development into early childhood, adolescence, and even into adulthood. Taking care of the entire nuclear family is one of the most rewarding things we do. Most parents find it desirable to have all of their health care in one location.
